Müntschemier station no longer satisfied the needs of passengers, nor the requirements of a modern railway station. The track, overhead line and safety systems had reached the end of their service lives. The completed station renewal makes a contribution to the planned half-hourly service between Bern and Neuenburg as of 2025.
Apart from the renewal and simplification of the track and overhead line systems, two outdoor platforms and additional underpasses were also built. What’s more, the tracks on both sides of the station had to be extended to allow entry and exit speeds of 90 km/h.
