At the Kesswil railroad station, WALO Bertschinger Ostschweiz was commissioned by the Swiss Federal Railways SBB to carry out a road renewal including substructure rehabilitation on line 824 between Uttwil and Güttingen.
For the subgrade rehabilitation, the drainage had to be connected to the municipal sewer system via an intervention shaft. For the pavement renewal, the old ballast was removed and processed in the WALO washing plant, saving around 65 tons of CO2.
With the help of the Bomag combination roller, which is equipped for recording the dynamic surface compaction, the compaction could be checked in terms of area at any time, recorded and finally handed over to the SBB for quality control.
Due to the short construction period and the comprehensive logistics planning, the pavement renewal at Kesswil station presented the entire team with major challenges. While the planning and preparatory work had to be completed within just two weeks, only seven days remained for the construction work. This meant that the work steps had to mesh precisely, which required close coordination between all departments. In addition, a sophisticated logistics concept had to ensure that all around 1,000 trucks delivered the material to the right place at the right time in order to keep to the tight schedule.
