The Rhine bank between the St. Johann Park and the French border in Basel invites with a new promenade to stroll and linger along the Rhine. ARGE Rheinuferpromenade was awarded the contract for the construction of this new path connection with numerous artificial structures. For this purpose, various structures had to be dismantled in stages. In order to support the height difference of up to twelve meters, various retaining walls and stairs were built in the entire construction site area and these were then clad with natural stone.
In the Rhypark section, a new footbridge was built over the Rhine, which is founded on piles. This steel construction is equipped with a small boat mooring and connects with ramps to the existing construction of the Ueli ferry. Several groynes and floating stairs were constructed in the Rhine, and sheet piling was installed by floating equipment. The existing sheet pile wall of the former port facility was faced with prefabricated concrete elements (6.8 t each). This installation work was carried out from the pontoon and the retaining walls were backfilled with approximately 75,000 m3 of gravel mix. For ecological reasons, this gravel was delivered mainly by ship.
We appreciate your interest in the WALO Group and are happy to answer any questions you may have.
