The planned new construction had to be rebuilt on the site of the old hydroelectric power plant. The structure is located between the railroad line of the Montreux-Berner Oberland Bahn (MOB) and the river Simme. Next to it is the entire headrace channel in the area of the timber depot of Holzwerke Rieder. For the construction of the new weir field and the intake, the Simme was completely diverted. As is usual for power plant constructions on flowing water, a fish ladder was also built for this construction project. In the area of the intake structure, parallel to the river, this passageway was built for the fish.
The MOB railroad line could only be completely closed during one weekend. The connecting structures were built with safety guards under railroad operation.
In addition, excavation work under the slope foundation revealed saturated bog soil in which the channel had to be rebuilt. The culverts, which were installed in a night shift, could be prefabricated next to the installation site in the area of the planned crane location. During one night, with the help of five excavators and ten heavy vehicles, the excavation pit was constructed to accommodate the prefabricated culverts. A prefabricated nail wall supported the excavation pit on one side, while the other three sides were naturally sloped. At the inlet, the channel sections weigh about 25 tons each and the bridge trough about 40 tons. At the outlet, the channels weigh about 35 tons/piece and the trough about 48 tons.
We appreciate your interest in the WALO Group and will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
